We present a framework for the route selection and throughput optimization of the data transmission routes for the mobile sensor networks in presence of the multipath Rayleigh fading. The framework is constituted of two main phases i.e. Communication Aware Optimization (CAO) and Position Aware Optimization (PAO). The CAO utilizes a communication quality oriented routing metric into the route selection problem to search for the high throughput routes and compensate for the fading effects in network. The throughput of selected route is further optimized by exploiting the multipath fading, and position information of nodes in the PAO phase. The PAO phase identifies the bottleneck link and its corresponding router on the route selected by CAO phase. The router then re-locates itself so that the route is reconfigured and the overall throughput is improved. The new position for the router is computed using the particle swarm optimization and the router is driven to the new position by a feedback mobility control law. We include simulation studies to illustrate the aspects of the proposed throughput optimization framework and compare the performance with conventional route selection strategies.
