ABSTRACT
<p>A forum for exchanging ideas, philosophy, and experience.</p><p><it>Numbers are essential for software development and process improvement, but beware: they are double-edged swords. Good numbers, applied with insight and sound decision making, will bring benefits. But too often bad numbers become the basis for plans and actions that bring no benefit and can actually cause loss by supporting wrong decisions. In this issue, Robert Glass describes some problems with numbers and offers a proposal.</it></p><p>—<it>Tomoo Matsubara</it></p>
