In times of ubiquitous Internet access, multimedia systems using networks gain more importance. Multimedia systems support features beyond the download and display of videos and images: adaptation of data and metadata, caching and distribution of multimedia content and metadata over different network types, and user integration. The focus of the special session is multimedia metadata. Aspects include but are not limited to means of delivery, adaptation, storage, creation, production, and consumption.

Int'l J. Digital Multimedia Broadcasting Special issue on personalization of mobile multimedia broadcasting.

This special issue seeks research contributions in all areas directly applying or contributing to solving the issues related to digital multimedia broadcasting personalization. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, mobile TV, mobile multimedia broadcasting personalization, interactive broadcasting services/interactive television, personalization and multimedia home platforms, multimedia content adaptation for personalization, and user behavior and use modeling.

The IEEE Transactions on Multimedia invites submissions to a special issue on communities and media computing. Topics of interests include, but are not limited to, the following: personalized, community-aware multimedia annotation and analysis; modeling personal and collective context, as well as knowledge; models for evolutionary community and knowledge dynamics; user interfaces for community-based media computing; emergence of new semantics—frameworks for discovery; fundamental issues relating to concept learnability and concept scalability; community-centric multimedia services and applications; fundamental system challenges due to very large scale media collectives; structure of social networks and its influence on information dissemination; and understanding real-world social network and communities based on multimedia understanding or communication analysis.

The paper submission deadline is 15 May 2008.
