The Internet has facilitated the creation of economies that might have been previously unimaginable -- ranging from targeted online advertising to crowdsourcing to peer-to-peer lending and digital currencies -- and the Internet is only growing in scale. This special issue discusses the modeling, analysis, and design of Internet-specific economic activity, considering research challenges surrounding both Internet economies that are "in plain sight" and "undercover."
