The British Computer Society Specialist Group on Artificial Intelligence's Machine Intelligence Prize has attracted a wide range of entries spanning the gamut of AI applications and technologies, from air traffic control to art and from neural nets to robotics. Several entries are described. Last year's winner, the Painting Fool, produces fascinating, visually arresting portraits. The Machine Intelligence Prize, along with three other AI competitions described here, offer fertile ground for innovative AI ideas to grow and bear fruit.
