<p>Interactive visualization aids to our ability to understand the vast amount of data from large-scale simulations of complex, transient phenomena. This article reviews the most effective strategies developed so far for enabling interactive visualization of volume data from time-varying simulations with a focus on the encoding, feature extraction, and rendering issues. We also identify and discuss emerging trends in time-varying data visualization research and their potential impacts on scientific research community.</p>
