Aldec, a creator of mixed-language simulation and design tools for ASIC and FPGA devices, recently announced the release of Riviera 2005.08, which includes a new gate-level simulation technology (SLP), VHDL and Verilog linting, and support for 64-bit Linux operating systems. The SLP incorporates a redesigned simulation engine that promises a sharp reduction in run times.
Riviera integrates HDL and various iterations of C, including C++ and SystemC. The integration lets developers simulate HDL models with high-level C-based test benches, instantiate C models in HDL, and connect custom visualization applications to HDL. C applications can be compiled with a dedicated command that sets the paths to header files, libraries to be linked, and so on.
The Riviera package is an open solution. Outside applications can be connected to the simulation kernel using generic PLI and VHPI interfaces. A set of debugging tools and numerous ready-to-use interfaces to third-party tools are optional.

STMicroelectronics recently released an enhanced version of its STW21000 microcontroller to support applications in complex telecommunication infrastructure equipment such as base transceiver stations.
The new device, called the STW22000, uses ST's 130-nm CMOS technology and adds a 600-MHz 16/32-bit dual-MAC DSP core to the existing device. The existing STW21000 has a 300-MHz ARM926EJ-S RISC core, an embedded FPGA block, reconfigurable interfaces, 16 Mbits of embedded DRAM, five $ I^2 C $ bus interfaces, and a wide range of analog and digital peripherals such as D/A and A/D converters.
The STW22000 comes with a support package that can be used with multiple operating system implementations. A complete set of development tools for the embedded DSP core can evaluate performance as well as develop, debug, and integrate application code on the chip, providing multicore development and debug capability.

ThinkFree Office 3 consists of three applications—Write, Calc, and Show—that use the same respective file formats as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Designed to look, feel, and behave like Microsoft Office, but at a fraction of the cost, the Java-based software also runs on most Windows and Macintosh systems.
