One of the most controversial subjects today is the cost-effectiveness and usefulness of high-level languages in microcomputer applications. Lawrence Livermore Laboratory has been involved with microprocessors since 19721,2and as such has constantly been involved with the evaluation of HLL's. The problem becomes even more complicated when the area of real time data acquisition and control is specifically addressed.
