LOS ALAMITOS, Calif., 26 August, 2010 – Albert Y. Zomaya, chair professor of high performance computing and networking at the University of Sydney, has been appointed editor in chief of IEEE Transactions on Computers.
Zomaya, a former TC associate editor, will begin his term next January. His appointment was confirmed by the Computer Society Board of Governors, with recommendations from the Publications Board.
He currently directs the Centre for Distributed and High Performance Computing and is an Australian Research Council Professorial Fellow in the School of Information Technologies. Zomaya is also director of the newly established Centre for Distributed and High Performance Computing and was CISCO Systems chair professor of internetworking between 2002 and 2007.
Before joining the University of Sydney, he was an electrical and electronic engineering professor at the University of Western Australia. He also led the Parallel Computing Research Laboratory there between 1990 and 2002.
Zomaya has authored or co-authored seven books and more than 360 technical articles, and edited eight books and 11 conference volumes. He is currently associate editor for 18 journals, including leading journals IEEE Transactions on Parallel and Distributed Systems and the Journal of Parallel and Distributed Computing.
Zomaya was founding editor of the Wiley Book Series on Parallel and Distributed Computing, co-editor of the Wiley Book Series on Bioinformatics and the Wiley Book Series on Nature Inspired Computing, and editor in chief of the Parallel and Distributed Computing Handbook (McGraw-Hill, 1996).
He is former chair of the IEEE Technical Committee on Parallel Processing and currently serves on its executive committee. He also serves on the advisory board of the IEEE Technical Committee on Scalable Computing, the advisory board of the Machine Intelligence Research Labs, is a scientific council member of the Institute for Computer Sciences, Social–Informatics, and Telecommunications Engineering (in Brussels); and a board member of the IEEE Systems, Man, and Cybernetics Society Technical Committee on Self-Organized Distributed and Pervasive Systems.
