Board of Governors (2013)
Harold Javid has enjoyed a career at the intersection of industry and academia. After completing a PhD in EE from UIUC, Harold worked for small companies as electronics division manager and general manager and in large companies including GE and Boeing as researcher and team manager. In 1998, after turning around a small company and then supporting its sale, he followed his heart back to his technical love—by joining Microsoft. In his present role at Microsoft, he is responsible for regional connections and creating focused collaborations between Microsoft Research and universities in North America, Latin America, and Australia. Harold loves the academic interactions and opportunities to gain understanding of the global academic ecosystem.
Harold has leveraged this breadth of experience and understanding of industry and academia in his services to the IEEE Computer Society. Beginning as Region 6 chapter coordinator, he moved successively to Secretary of the MGAB and Chair of the Member Development Committee. From 2010-2012, Harold served on he Society's Industry Advisory Board (IAB). In 2011, he was elected Chair. He is presently serving a one-year (2013) term on the Computer Society's Board of Governors.
