Jane Prey graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and received a PhD from the University of Virginia. She taught in the University of Virginia's Computer Science Department for 11 years and joined Microsoft Research in 2004, where she lead the Tablet Technologies in Higher Education initiative. She was also responsible for the development and implementation of Microsoft Research's Gender Diversity and Pipeline Strategy. Currently serves at the University of Colorado, ATLAS Institute and NCWIT.
Her Computer Society activities include work on the Educational Activities Board and Computer Society representative to the Frontiers in Education (FIE) steering committee. She served as both secretary and chair of the FIE steering committee, as well as program cochair. Prey received FIE's Ronald J. Schmitz Award for outstanding service and was honored with the ACM SIGCSE Lifetime Service Award in March 2012. She has served as Computer Society representative to the Computing Research Association's Executive Board and started collaborating for the National Science Foundation since September 2012.
