Dr. Bashar Nuseibeh received the BSc degree in computer systems engineering (first class honors) from the University of Sussex, United Kingdom, in 1988, and the MSc and PhD degrees in software engineering from Imperial College London in 1989 and 1994, respectively. He is currently a professor of computing at The Open University, United Kingdom, and a visiting professor at Imperial College London and the National Institute of Informatics, Japan. Beginning in October 2009, he will also be a professor of software engineering and chief scientist at LERO―the Irish Software Engineering Research Centre. Previously, he was a reader at Imperial College London and head of its Software Engineering Laboratory. His research interests are in software requirements engineering and design, software engineering for secure systems and privacy management, and technology transfer. He has published more than 140 papers and consulted widely with industry, working with organizations such as the UK National Air Traffic Services (NATS), Texas Instruments, Praxis Critical Systems, Philips Research Labs, and NASA. He was the editor-in-chief of the Automated Software Engineering Journal and an associate editor of the IEEE Transactions on Software Engineering, and currently serves on the editorial boards of the Requirements Engineering Journal and a number of other international journals. He has served as program chair for major conferences in his field, including ASE 1998, RE 2001, and ICSE 2005, was the chair of the steering committee of ICSE (2007-2009), and is currently the chair of the IFIP Working Group 2.9 on Requirements Engineering. He received a 2002 Philip Leverhulme Prize, an ICSE 2003 Most Influential Paper award, and a Senior Research Fellowship from the Royal Academy of Engineering and Leverhulme Trust (2005-2007). He is a fellow of Automated Software Engineering (elected in 2007), a fellow of the British Computer Society (BCS) and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), and a Chartered Engineer in the United Kingdom.
