The President's Discussion Corner
One of the first things that a professional society must do is to define its field. The IEEE Computer Society has traditionally done this, as as many societies, by defining the educational requirements for computing professionals. It started this work in the 1970s and it used this effort to distinguish a computing professional from an electrical engineer. This kind of work remains an important part of the society and its Educational Activities Board.
The Computer Society leadership leadership was part of the IEEE leadership meetings of February 2013. While the sessions touched on a number of issues that affect the society, three of the most prominent were those of periodicals, future directions and conferences. This video gives a quick summary of the issues and decisiosn that touched on these three items.
