TCuARCH Chair Candidate
Matthew Farrens received his PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin and is a professor of Computer Science at the University of California, Davis. He has been active in both the ACM and IEEE communities, serving as TCMarch chair from 1993-1998 and SIGARCH treasurer from 2003-2007. He was also program chair for Micro 27, co-general chair of Micro 32 and is the general chair for Micro 46.
I will do my best to make sure TCMarch remains a viable TC. I did it in the 90's, and I hope to be able to do it again now. I think the biggest thing to do is to find ways to avoid reinventing the wheel, and instead leverage what is available. To begin with, I will look to find ways to cooperate more with our sister organization (SIGMicro). For example, a joint newsletter might be a reasonable thing to explore. I think there should be a number of ways that we can be a viable TC without needing to be purely redundant.
