Report to Members
October 2009
2009 has presented many economic challenges worldwide. At this time, I want to thank you for your IEEE Computer Society membership and your support of the work we do to advance the field of computing. I know it is increasingly difficult to commit your resources, and we appreciate your continued dedication to the society.
With the current state of the economy, many of our members are returning to school to further their education and potential employment opportunities. In an effort to help students achieve their goals, we are offering a special student membership package for 2010 that gives you an extremely affordable way to access essential resources while pursuing or continuing your education.
This year, the Computer Society has continued to focus on ways to enhance service to you and provide benefits essential to your professional and career development. Our goal is to offer resources and opportunities for student members to learn and connect with the community around the globe. I would like to highlight some of the new products and services we have implemented to help you choose a career path and perhaps find the job of your dreams. You can also discover how to get the most from your membership by visiting our website.
Again, thank you for your continued support.
Sincerely,
Susan K. (Kathy) Land
2009 IEEE Computer Society President

IEEE Transactions on Affective Computing
IEEE Computer Society is pleased to announce the publication of a new transaction in an exciting and evolving field. Launching in 2010, IEEE Transactions on Affective Computing will disseminate research that explains why and how affective factors influence interaction between humans and technology; how affective sensing and simulation techniques can inform our understanding of human affective processes; and the design, implementation and evaluation of
