Feb 1 Webcast: Software Architecture for Java developers -- Grady Booch
Every software-intensive system has an architecture: some are intentional, though most are accidental. It's also the case that every well-structured system is full of patterns, a mechanism that greatly helps a development team manage complexity. In this webcast we will examine architecture and patterns as they apply to Java development, and in particular study some relevant architectural and design patterns.

Title: Tackling the Challenges of a Distributed Development Environment
Date: recorded April 28, 2005
Abstract: In today’s global economy, many companies are shifting their development strategy to one that is geographically distributed. With this shift, many companies have experienced a high degree of project failure rather than success, due to several challenges magnified by a distributed staff. This webcast is for Project Managers and Technical Leaders responsible for the success of distributed teams who want to identify the best way to leverage distributed software development capabilities while maintaining a unified team approach. To achieve success, the challenges that are faced throughout the development lifecycle need to be addressed and the concepts, processes, and tools within the IBM Rational Software Development Platform (IRSDP) solution examined, which will allow us to achieve the benefits for each area within the development platform.
Title: Compliance-Driven Development: A Practical Approach to Meeting SOX and Other Regulatory Requirements
Presenter: Bernie Coyne
Date: July 20, 2005
Abstract: Given the predominance of regulatory mandates and standards, ensuring that activities are controlled and auditable is an integral part of any software development project. According to industry analysts, any application that supports a financial transaction or financial reporting must be designed, coded and tested with auditability in mind. Likewise, any business process that produces financial transactions or financial reporting supported by an application must be repeatable, traceable and verifiable. Attend this webcast to learn how Sarbanes-Oxley is just one mandate that demands a compliance-driven development approach.
Title: How to Boost Performance of your XML Data
Presenter: Matthias Nicola
Date: August 16, 2005
Abstract: XML is a key technology for the next stage in the evolution of Information Management. XML is predominant in most organizations and hosts an abundance of business information on public and private Web sites. XML is quickly becoming the defacto standard for information exchange and electronic forms, and with XML-based service oriented architectures (SOA) emerging as the next major wave of application architectures.
Today, most XML content is stored either in file systems or in relational or pure XML databases. When stored in relational databases, the XML data is either shredded or stored as a single object (BLOB/CLOB). While these methods have their advantages, retrieving and updating this data can be expensive and time-consuming. At the same time, most pure XML databases cannot scale to meet the needs of many organizations and also limit the ability to leverage the investments many organizations have already made in relational technology.
Find out how DB2 plans to solves these performance problems with new XML technology designed to provide high performance. This webcast will discuss new native XML storage, indexing techniques, and access methods designed to deliver high performance for your XML data.
Title: Comply, Govern, Transform: Making the Most of Project Portfolio Management
Date: September 13, 2005
Abstract: IT leaders are faced with numerous demands. They must support compliance with government regulations and industry standards, ensure IT initiatives align with business objectives and increase the value delivered by IT to the business on shrinking or flat budgets. Project portfolio management practices and tooling can enable IT leaders to move up the value chain from basic compliance to transforming IT into a competitive advantage. An industry analyst and IBM expert will discuss how project portfolio management supports compliance, governance and IT transformation objectives.
