The worldwide web is becoming increasingly popular as an information and multimedia exchange platform due to its simplicity and ubiquity. A web information system is a software application that uses web technologies for execution and is accessed by the users via a hypertext interface. Development of these web information systems(WIS) is somewhat different from traditional n-tier software development approaches in many regards. Web based systems can act as information providers, information systems, advertising medium or a community network at the same time.

Some of the important aspects of WIS design are as follows

- content modeling

- presentation

- data integration

- navigation structure

- personalization

- server administration

While conventional web technologies have focused mostly on human-to-human interaction and information access there is another initiative taking off at the same time that attempts to utilize similar techniques for machine understanding of content available on web pages. This extension of web concepts is referred to as the Semantic web and it allows us to query web meta data and provide database support for documents. This web site will maintain and track various practices and techniques in each of the above mentioned areas.
