IEEE Computer Society Rolls Out Free Digital Editions

LOS ALAMITOS, Calif. 15 September, 2008— The IEEE Computer Society this month will begin offering free digital editions of Computer, IEEE Security & Privacy, and IEEE Design & Test of Computers magazines. The four-month trial is part of the Computer Society’s continuing support of sustainable practices and comes after a year of testing the digital format for the three publications.

Computer Society partner Qmags will deliver the digital editions by email throughout the trial. Members will automatically receive the trial, while nonmembers must sign up through the links below.

The digital trial will allow readers to immediately access new magazine issues by viewing an enhanced PDF or visiting a website, instead of waiting for new print issues to be delivered by traditional mail. Subscribers will continue to receive their print issues during the trial, however may opt to convert to digital once the trial ends.

Conversion from print to digital will cut down on landfill waste and use of ink and packaging, as well as result in lower emissions being released into the atmosphere.

“We’re excited about the ability to deliver our technological content by quicker means to our subscribers while reducing our carbon footprint,” said Dick Price, sales and marketing director. “Our readers want to receive their monthly issues in a timely manner, and now they’ll be able to receive them shortly after the magazines are laid out.”

Nonmembers can sign up for the free offer through 12 December by visiting:
