Computer Society and Samsung Partner on Certification

LOS ALAMITOS, Calif., 8 March, 2006 -- The IEEE Computer Society today announced a strategic partnership for Samsung SDS Multicampus to develop, promote and deliver online and offline exam preparation courses and computer-based testing services for the society’s Certified Software Development Professional (CDSP) Programs in Korea.

The IEEE Computer Society’s Certified Software Professional (CDSP) credential tests mid level software engineers in eleven knowledge areas. In order to qualify for the four hour, 180 question examination, professionals must hold a baccalaureate or equivalent degree and have a minimum of 9,000 hours of relevant experience.

Samsung SDS Multicampus, the educational institute of Samsung SDS, provides its corporate customers with high quality custom training, online and offline course development and human resource consulting. Also, it provides more than 100 Korean Professional Engineers and 6,500 IT experts certificated from SUN, IBM and Microsoft with its IT educational training courses. The institute will develop their own CSDP test prep courses using the IEEE Computer Society’s Software Engineering Body of Knowledge (SWEBok) with the support from the Society’s Professional Practices Committee.

“Samsung SDS Multicampus is our first CSDP Strategic Partner,” said David Hennage, Executive Director of the IEEE Computer Society. “We hope to expand this into a global network with other complementary partnerships serving other local markets to build awareness and adoption of professional certification for software development professionals.”

“The IEEE Computer Society’s CSDP is on the highest technical standards in IT professional certification” said Roh, Hak-Myung, Vice President of Samsung SDS Multicampus. “This collaboration with The IEEE Computer Society will enable us to introduce and provide global standard certification courses in the Korean market. Also, we will arrange innovative technical programs for educating engineers as future leaders in the competitive global IT environment."

Samsung SDS Multicampus is a member of the global CBT network of Thomson Prometric and will provide computer-based testing services for the CSDP exam on an exclusive basis to IEEE Computer Society Korean members, Samsung SDS Multicampus corporate members, and the general Korean software engineering market. The company will also pursue adoption of CSDP as a Korean standard of practice before government, academia, and industry. Samsung SDS Multicampus will sell the CSDP training and exam together.

The agreement was signed today at the annual Board of Governor’s meeting of the IEEE Computer Society in San Francisco.
