How to Use ScholarOne Manuscripts (formerly Manuscript Central)

Access a Manuscript

  1. Please go into the Editor Center located in ScholarOne Manuscripts. (formerly Manuscript Central)
  2. Click on - "New Manuscripts: Manage Reviewers and Make Recommendations" view.
  3. Click on - "View Details"
  4. Click on - manuscript title to view the PDF of the submission

Put into Review

  1. Scroll down and click on "Assign or Remove Reviewer"
  2. Use the Reviewer Search located on the right side of your screen
  3. Use the "BEGINS WITH search" and enter Reviewers' last name
  4. Click on the reviewer's name and then click on the "Assign Reviewer" button
  5. Once the manuscript form is populated with the names, close out of the form - the names will be saved.
  6. Click the "Ms. Hazel Kosky" hyperlink email (located in View Details screen) to notify the MA that the reviewers have been selected.
The magazine assistant will then format and send request letters to the reviewers you selected.

If you have already confirmed the reviewers you selected, please let the magazine assistant know so she can alter the letter accordingly.

Post a Recommendation

  1. To access the Manuscripts
    Please go into the Editor Center located in ScholarOne Manuscripts
  2. Click on - "New Manuscripts: Manage Reviewers and Make Recommendations" view.
  3. Click on - "View Details"
  4. Scroll down and click on the "Make Recommendation" button and then click the "Post Recommendation" button.
    1. You can select from Accept, Minor Revision, Major Revision or Reject.
  5. Please carefully read the instructions before filling out the form. When
    finished filling out the form, click on the "Send to Editor-in-Chief" button.

Please note that this action is NOT reversible. Notification of your recommendation will be sent directly to the magazine assistant for processing.

How to select & invite reviewers

  1. Access the manuscript record in Manuscript Central by clicking on the “Select Reviewers” queue from your Editor Center.
  2. Click on the check mark icon beneath the Take Action column.
  3. Scroll down to the Quick Search section of the manuscript record.
  4. Perform a reviewer search using the first and/or last name of the person you wish to find. If performing a keyword search, you must include an asterisk before & after the word.  Click Search.
  5. Scroll to the Search results area, click in the box under the Add column across the name of the person you want to assign and then click on the Add icon. The screen will refresh.
  6. Click on the “Invite” button beside the reviewer’s name. An email pop-up box will appear.
  7. Click “Save and Send.”
  8. Repeat steps 4-7 until all reviewers you wish to invite are contacted.

The reviewers will automatically receive a letter if they click on the Agree, Decline, or Unavailable links that appear in the invitation letter.  If they email their response to you, access the manuscript record from your Editor Center in Manuscript Central, select the appropriate response type from the drop-down menu, and click save to send out the appropriate letter.

Contact the publications administrator to make changes to the reviewers' due dates.

How to enter a recommendation without reviews (Administrative Reject)

  1. Access the manuscript record in Manuscript Central by clicking on the “Select Reviewers” queue from your Editor Center.
  2. Click on the check mark icon beneath the Take Action column.
  3. Scroll over to the right side of the screen to the “# reviews required to make decision” field, change the entry from “3” to “0” and click Save. The screen will refresh, giving you access to the recommendation form.
  4. Click the radio button that corresponds with your recommendation.
  5. Enter comments for the Editor in Chief in the “Confidential Comments to the EIC” text box and your comments for the author into the “Comments to the Author” text box.
  6. Click Submit.

Contact the publications administrator immediately if you experience any difficulties with entering an administrative reject recommendation.

How to enter a recommendation with reviews

  1. Log on to Manuscript Central.
  2. Click on the Editor Center link.
  3. Click on the Make Recommendation link, listed on the left-hand side of the screen.
  4. Click on the check mark icon located beneath the Take Action column of the first manuscript record.
  5. To view the manuscript, click on ONE of the following: HTML, PDF or Original Files icon.
  6. To view the reviews, scroll to the right side of the screen and click on the “view review” links located under each reviewer’s name. 
    If this is a minor revision, view the author responses (if not uploaded as a file) by clicking on the Manuscript Information tab on the left-hand side of the screen.  Scroll down to the Version History section & click on the "View Author's Response" link.
  7. To enter a recommendation, click on the Make Recommendation tab (at the top right-hand corner of the manuscript record) and make sure it is grayed out so that you have access to the recommendation form.
  8. Click the radio button that corresponds with your recommendation and then type in your comments for the Editor in Chief & for the author in the appropriate fields.
  9. Click Submit.
