D&T Author Resources
Scope
A bimonthly publication of the IEEE Computer Society, IEEE Design & Test offers original works describing the body of methods used in designing and testing the complete range of electronic product hardware and supportive software. D&T readers include users, developers, and researchers who are concerned with the design and test of chips, assemblies, and integrated systems.
Content
Topics may include IC or module design, low-power design, electronic design automation, design or test verification, practical technology, and standards. Tutorials, how-to articles, and real-world case studies are most welcome.
D&T is not an appropriate publication for highly theoretical journal articles; it focuses on current and near-future practice and follows a highly readable (concise, direct, clear) magazine style.
Writing style
Successful articles avoid the style of transactions and academic journals. Typically, an article defines a problem; advocates a solution; and reports costs, return on investment, and trade-offs. Readers welcome clear, accurate writing, presented in logical sequence.
Readers move swiftly through articles written in active voice and containing short words, short sentences, and concrete examples. Remember, some readers won't be familiar with your specialty; you will have to explain unusual terms or intricate processes. Avoid jargon, explain acronyms, and simplify your language.
How to Submit
The IEEE Computer Society now employs a secure, Web-based manuscript submission and peer-review tracking system. Authors who wish to submit to IEEE Design and Test must use Manuscript Central to upload their submissions to this all-electronic system. The first-time user must create a new account. The site provides detailed instructions on usage.
We believe that Manuscript Central will be an efficient tool that will significantly reduce the time required for the peer review process. For more information, please see our submission guidelines and requirements located in the Author Center.
