Leap Motion, a San Francisco-based startup, has created a device that gives users 3D motion control of their computers using their fingers and hands as input devices. The device reportedly is accurate to within 1/100 of a millimeter, 200 times more sensitive than existing motion-sensing technologies, and captures movement within several feet of a user. According to ABC News, the prototype USB-connected Leap device is “about the size of a pack of gum and half as thick.” Leap Motion plans to begin selling its device this winter for $70. The company is reportedly courting software developers across numerous industries, including medicine and engineering, to write software for its product and plans to offer 15,000 to 20,000 free software developer kits.
