Norwegian Education Researchers Implementing Tablet Computers

Behavioral scientists at Norway’s University of Stavanger are working with young children by using tablet computers as an aid in researching learning patterns. Children as young as two years old could easily use the devices’ touchscreens. Researchers working on the Ready for School project at the University of Stavanger’s Center for Behavioral Research are exploring factors that influence learning and performance in early education, including word and number comprehension, memory, and reading. They have developed an application that will enable them to collect data easily. Initially, five- and six-year-old children will use the application so that researchers can determine how educators might better engage children in learning activities.
