Korean Researchers Announce High-Speed, Low-Power RF Chip

Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology researchers have developed a low-power, 60-GHz RF chip that wirelessly transmits large amounts of data between devices. The integrated circuit reportedly can send data up to 10.7 Gbits per second. Bluetooth high speed technology, for comparison, has an average data transfer rate of 24 Mbps. Existing high-speed wireless chips require significant amounts of energy, which has delayed their development. The new chip uses as little as 67 mW of power: 31mW to send and 36mW to receive data. The compact device also has a single antenna and an integrated switch. The researchers say the chip can be installed on mobile devices or cameras.(EurekAlert)(Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology @ EurekAlert)(Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology @ YouTube)
