Flexible E-Books Ready to Hit the Market

LG Display announced it is ramping up production of a flexible electronic-paper display designed for e-books. The company says it is making the six-inch, black-and-white e-ink panels on a plastic substrate that can bend 40 degrees from the display’s center. The other metrics for the display touted by the company are that it is only 0.7-mm thick, weighs 14 grams, and has a 1024 × 768-pixel resolution. The company says the display stands up to various stresses, including being dropping from a height of four feet. LG estimates about 10 percent of existing e-book users have accidentally damaged their screens by dropping them. The first consumer devices featuring the flexible displays are scheduled for release in Europe in April. (PhysOrg.com)(Consumer Reports)(International Business Times)
