Cool-Tether creates Wi-Fi hotspot from multiple phones

Microsoft Research has developed a prototype Wi-Fi hotspot system that combines resources from multiple mobile phones to create more powerful high-speed Internet access. Called Cool-Tether, the system improves on previous attempts to pool mobile phone connections by maximizing data in high-power states, keeping phone batteries from running out too quickly. Microsoft might test the system in countries such as India, where mobile phone use is more prevalent than land-line access. (PC Pro)
