The current lack of accountability frameworks for distributed IT services makes it difficult for users to understand and influence how cloud and IT service providers honor their obligations to act as responsible stewards for users’ data.
The A4Cloud project is an EU project that aims to bring users, providers, and regulators together in chains of accountability for data in the cloud. The project is led by HP Labs in Bristol, with partners in eight EU countries. They propose to clarify liability and provide greater transparency overall. A4Cloud participants presented a project overview in a paper presented at the 2012 IEEE Fourth International Conference on Cloud Computing Technology and Science (Cloudcom 2012).
"Accountability for Cloud and Other Future Internet Services" and other papers from Cloudcom 2012 are available to both IEEE Computer Society members and paid subscribers via the Computer Society Digital Library.
