University of Texas Engineers Apply Imaging to Surgical Reconstruction

University of Texas researchers are working with surgeons to create novel ways to improve the results of reconstructive surgery. For example, 3D surface-imaging technology and algorithms could let patients make more informed decisions about the type of reconstructive surgery that would be most aesthetically pleasing and practical based on their individual body types and personal preferences. The researchers are also working on predictive algorithms that would help physicians present surgical options to patients. Their work could help patients such as those who have had mastectomies or those facing facial reconstructive surgery. (University of Texas)(UT Engineer)
