IEEE Computer Society Press: Information for Book AuthorsCS Press logo

The IEEE Computer Society Press publishes all its traditional print books in partnership with John Wiley & Sons. The Press Operations Committee of the IEEE-CS reviews all proposals and manuscripts for importance, technical excellence, and appropriate scope, while Wiley edits, publishes, distributes, and markets the book itself.

Proposal Guidelines

To prepare a proposal for consideration by the Press Operations Committee, please fill out our proposal form (.pdf version also available) as completely as possible. To be reviewed in consideration for a contract, the book proposal will need to include at minimum:

  • Author information (name, address, CV or résumé)
  • Overview
  • Relevance to the Computer Society's mission
  • Table of contents
  • At least two sample chapters
  • Market need and competition
  • Projected manuscript information (estimated manuscript page count, number of figures, etc.)
  • Timetable (when will a full manuscript draft be complete and ready for review)

For more detail on proposal expectations, please see Wiley's proposal guidelines. For manuscript development, please see the IEEE Computer Society's style guide and copyright information.

Completed proposal forms may be submitted with a short letter of introduction to:

Manuscript Guidelines

Once a manuscript has been reviewed by CS experts, revised, and approved by the POC, the finished work may be submitted either as camera-ready .pdfs or LaTeX files, or as minimally formatted MS Word documents with separate files for figures and other images. Given the rigorous submission requirements for camera-ready copy, submitting an MS Word version of the manuscript for typesetting is strongly recommended. Please discuss the guidelines for manuscript preparation with your editor before sending anything, as these may vary from project to project.

For more documentation on the process of submitting the finished manuscript for publication, please see Wiley's manuscript guidelines. Manuscripts that do not meet these guidelines may be delayed or returned to the author(s) for reworking.
