FVE (Federated Virtual Environment) is a groupware research project addressing critical groupware issues such as scalability, adaptability and extendibility, and performance. It uses the virtual universe metaphor and offers unique features such as transparent operation on an unlimited number of servers, and runtime modifiability via several well-known scripting languages. This paper describes the evolution of FVE, its functionality, design, implementation, and our plans for its further evolution.
