Despite the fact that several initiatives are recently applying Grid technologies to the remote sensing computing, the deployment of proposed solutions on a large scale is not yet a reality. First we identify the former solutions. Following the conclusions and the advances in Grid technologies, it is is proposed a practical solution for remote sensing computing based on freely distributed tools. A test case is also described in which the software prototype is used to detects river bed changes.
