One of the major difficulties for service-based application designers and developers is ensuring that the services participating in a distributed application are compatible when composed together under Service Oriented Architectures. This paper examines this problem, and proposes a set of solutions by first defining ways of specifying compatibility conditions on contracts using standards such as WS-BusinessActivity and then presenting a tool that enables application developers check those conditions at design time.
