We propose a new style user interface for browsing and interacting with real-time maps representing a large number of moving objects on mobile devices. The real-time maps show present locations of moving objects such as trains, cars and people on the conventional static maps composed of static geospatial objects such as roads, buildings and rivers. The emergence of the real-time maps can change the style of users’ interactions on mobile devices into more natural and direct ways for location based services (LBS). We discuss the basic concept, significance and system architecture of the real-time maps for LBS in this paper. Also, we introduce a prototype system Mobile JaPOPPO for providing present locations of trains in Tokyo. It also realizes the function for multiple users to share their generated content on the platform.
