The study presented in this paper belongs to one of the vital subjects within multimedia processing, and in particular, music information retrieval (MIR). The aim of this paper is to show a method for retrieval musical rhythm from a musical symbolic file. The approach proposed employs salience-based methods, which indicate a tendency of a sound to be placed in the accented location of a musical piece. It is first hypothesized and then verified that rhythmic salience is dependent on physical attributes of sounds. Results of the experimental verification show that the duration-based salience method is sufficient to retrieve hypermetric structure of rhythm from musical files.
