Much emphasis is now placed on chip-multiprocessor (CMP) architecture design for exploiting thread-level parallelism in an application. However, traditional design only satisfies the basic requirements of combining several cores on one single chip, and does not consider different characteristics of cores and their different communication requirements. In this paper, from the abstract of the design principles of Manticore CMP architecture, we propose a novel on-chip communication model called unified-communication which is much suitable for chip multi-processor especially the heterogeneous multi-core processor.
