A client-oriented, team-based approach for teaching system integration to undergraduate students at the United States Military Academy's Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science has proved highly effective. The two-semester course gives them their first real research and development experience in a carefully monitored and guided environment that translates theory into product. This experience helps demonstrate how students can become what employers seek and how educational institutions can provide what society needs.
