Ubiquitous computing is characterized by a departure from general-purpose machines and standard user interface devices. Instead, it envisions integrating digital computation?s flexibility into everyday objects and environments. Consequently, exploring novel ubiquitous computing systems and applications inevitably requires prototyping not only software but also physical components. Smart-Its are hardware and software components for augmenting physical objects with embedded processing and interaction. These components are embedded devices that interact with their environment through a configurable collection of sensors and actuators.
