An innovative system uses intelligent video cameras to help manage airport ground movement by filling in blind spots in existing Advanced Surface Movement Guidance and Control systems. Reflections, multipath, and shadows caused by buildings, equipment, and other reflecting objects on airport surfaces make it difficult if not impossible for existing systems to reliably cover the whole aerodrome. In these cases, digital video cameras offer a cost-effective solution.
