The Advanced Knowledge Technologies project is investigating how to operationalize the knowledge management mantra "getting the right content to the right place at the right time and in the right form." A significant result is CS AKTive Space, a Semantic Web application that won the 2003 Semantic Web Challenge. CAS seeks to provide the experience of an integrated information overview that lets a user quickly determine who's doing what and where in UK computer science research. Development of the application involved several core Semantic Web challenges: acquiring content, developing ontologies to mediate heterogeneous data sources, developing scalable Resource Description Framework storage and query facilities, semantically directing interaction design, and facilitating knowledge-processing services over the harvested content.
