As the Access Point (AP) is responsible for forwarding all the frames to and from the infrastructure-based WLANs, the network performance is significantly degraded by the unbalanced traffic loads. A potential solution is to assign different Transmission Opportunities (TXOPs) to AP and other mobile stations, respectively. This study develops an analytical model to investigate the performance of infrastructure-based WLANs with the TXOP differentiation under the unbalanced traffic loads. The analytical model is validated through extensive ns2 simulation experiments.
