In 2001, Chien et al. proposed a modified verifier-free password authentication scheme without incurring much computational overhead to improve the security of Wu's scheme. Herein, we first review Chien at al.'s scheme and then show its weakness. Furthermore, we also propose a simple improved password authentication scheme based on the geometric property of the Euclidean plane.
