Software Defined Radio (SDR) is one of the key technologies in the wireless communication industry. A Tier-3 SDR, or Ideal Software Radio receiver is a device that performs all the demodulation (RF, IF and base-band) entirely in the digital domain. In this work we present the implementation and performance measurement of an AM receiver that belongs to this class of ideal software radios. The receiver is implemented in a Field Programmable Gate Array device.
