This paper proposes an adaptable receiver architecture for the WCDMA downlink UMTS standard. The architecture is aimed to support the receiver in such a way that it can self-adapt to different channel conditions. Architectural optimizations aiming to a more efficient implementation are presented and the advantages of the self-adaptable behavior of the receiver under a Raleigh channel are shown.
