Regional Economy Growth and Convergence: An Empirical Study on China's Science Parks
May 23-May 25
ISBN: 978-0-7695-3151-9
This paper firstly introduces the concept of “knowledge filter” and divides the growth of Science Parks into innovation and commercialization of knowledge, university-industry relations as well as external factors of industry agglomeration and spillover effect. The empirical study based on the panel data model is applied to test contribution of each factor concerned with China’s science parks. Then, a further study on the effect of science parks on regional economic convergence is conducted by using the β convergence model. The results show that the driving factors have turned out to be better ones when China's science parks are at their mature stage since the 21st century. However, their effect on the economic convergence of their host cities is still limited.
