By integrating the recursive and iterative thoughts commonly used in modeling fractals, an intelligent plant simulation technique is presented in the paper. With the technique, not only can the overall shapes and details of plants be controlled interactively by designing parametric fractals and parameterized growth process of fractals, but also the complexity in space and time of fractal-plants be reduced with easy modification by building parametric fractal-blocks. Thus, by using AutoCAD and its re-development tools (AutoLISP, ADS, ASE, DCL), the intelligent plant simulation system (IPSS-ADS) with the technique is implemented. It is very convenient for users to simulate plants at will. The realizing technique presented in the paper can be borrowed by the construction of other characteristics of fractals.
