Ad hoc networks can be instantly constructed without using an existing network infrastructure. But services that users can receive are restricted to those provided beforehand by service providers. Therefore, it is impossible to satisfy users' diverse demands. This paper proposes programmable ad hoc networks where users can, themselves, create new services. An emulator for ad hoc network experiments which can emulate multiple mobile nodes and radio zones on a single standard PC is also proposed. It was confirmed that the proposed programmable ad hoc networks and the emulator are effective.
