An integrated handover scheme for heterogeneous wireless networks is proposed, synthesizing MIPv6 horizontal handover and vertical handover. The scheme allows mobile nodes to select target networks and perform handover with the support of network entities. In order to optimize the handover performance of MIPv6, a protocol for horizontal handover and vertical handover is designed for the scheme. Experiments are operated to test the performance of the protocol.
