Current service management systems reach a great level of heterogeneity and complexity. Evolution towards NGS (Next Generation Services) arises intensely these problems. NGS will rely on a distributed architecture where numerous entities are involved to realize the service functionalities. Our belief is that autonomic management is the key approach to deal with the complexity of management systems within Next Generation Networks.

In this paper we present an overview of the work in progress about the autonomic management of the NGS. Key words: Autonomic computing, Next Generation Services (NGS), service management.
