International Conference on Networking, International Conference on Systems and International Conference on Mobile Communications and Learning Technologies (ICNICONSMCL'06) Traffic Engineering for Metro Ethernet Based on Multiple Spanning Trees Morne, Mauritius April 23-April 29 ISBN: 0-7695-2552-0
The significant advancement of Ethernet technology is pushing Ethernet from the local area network environment to metropolitan and wide area network environments. This paper presents a new traffic engineering scheme based on multiple spanning trees using a simple admission control algorithm. It is capable of making better use of network links bandwidth, balancing network traffic and maintaining admission fairness, priority and network efficiency together, resulting in the most amount of Ethernet virtual connections (EVC) accessible to network. Main application for this traffic engineering scheme is traffic distribution in optical cores or backbones of Metro Ethernet.
