This paper presents the design and implementation of a decentralized subscription based multimedia content delivery network. Content providers targeting specific customers advertise the types of content they will deliver to a Profile Based Router (PRoB). A PRoB router is an intelligent network device located at the edge of a network close to the targeted end-users. Endusers subscribe to data services and pay to receive multimedia data. The PRoB router distributes data from the providers to end users. The PRoB router ensures that end-users only receive traffic they have subscribed to. The PRoB router creates a profile for each customer which is accessible to content providers. Content providers can use this information to analyze and characterize different customers. Content providers save bandwidth by redistributing data locally and gain information that helps to better market their content. The system is scalable and reconfigurable at relatively low cost due to our design.
